Paul Markowski receives 2010 Penn State Alumni Achievement Award
Congratulations to Dr. Paul Markowski, ('96 BS Meteorology), Associate Professor of Meteorology, who has has won the
2010 Penn State Alumni Achievement Award. This award given by the Penn State Alumni Association is only in its fifth year and accepts only one nominee per college. Paul was selected by Dean Easterling in September to serve as the College of Earth and Mineral Sciences nominee.
One of Paul's nominators had this to say about his accomplishments. "Simply put, Paul is one
of the best, most innovative, most forward-thinking young scientists
that I know. In his approach to science, he combines the best
techniques and thinking of classical synoptic and dynamic meteorology
with modern day observational and modeling techniques to explore
phenomena on the mesoscale. His doctoral work and subsequent research
has greatly expanded our knowledge of basic physics underlying
initiation of deep convective events and the dynamics of their
subsequent evolution into thunderstorms."
The Alumni Achievement Award recognizes alumni 35 years of age and
younger for their extraordinary professional accomplishments. These
prominent young alumni are nominated by an academic college and invited
by the President of the University to share their expertise with
students, faculty, and administrators. They demonstrate to students
that Penn State alumni succeed in exceptional fashion at an early age.
The award is a cast bronze medallion and framed certificate.
Paul accepted the award at the Penn State Alumni Achievement Awards ceremony held at The Nittany Lion Inn on April 9, 2010. Please join us in congratulating Dr. Markowski on this fine recognition of his achievements.
